Step-by-Step Process for Buying a Suppressor at Duncan Gun Shop:
Step 1: Ensure You Meet the Basic Eligibility Requirements
To purchase a suppressor in North Carolina, you must meet certain federal and state eligibility requirements:
- Age: You must be 21 years old or older to purchase a suppressor.
- Legal Status: You must be legally allowed to possess firearms and ammunition. This means no felony convictions or restraining orders.
- Residency: You must be a U.S. citizen or a permanent resident and a resident of North Carolina.
Step 2: Choose a Suppressor
You’ll need to choose the suppressor you wish to purchase. This involves:
- Selecting the Type: Suppressors vary depending on the firearm you plan to use them with (rifles, shotguns, or pistols).
- Quality and Brand: Consider brands like SilencerCo, Dead Air, or Rugged. Research reviews and features for your intended use.
Duncan Gun Shop has access to many other brands, so check with us before you order and save yourself a transfer fee. Once you've chosen a suppressor, you can move forward to the next step.
Step 3: Create an eForms Account.
You will have to create an account for the ATF. Go to eforms.atf.gov and select Register.
Make sure the information you register is an exact match with you ID, otherwise, when we try to finish the Form 4, it will not let us complete it.
Step 4: Complete ATF Form 4
This is the crucial paperwork that you need to complete in order to purchase a suppressor legally.
- Form 4: The official form you need to submit to the ATF to apply for the transfer of a suppressor.
- Fingerprints and Photo: You will need to submit fingerprints and a passport-style photo as part of the application process.
- Duncan Gun Shop does all Paperwork in house. Your pictures and fingerprints are completed here.
Step 6: Submit the Paperwork to the ATF
Once your Form 4 and other necessary documents are complete, we submit it electronically to the ATF.
Step 7: Pick Up the Suppressor
After your application is approved by the ATF, you can go back to the dealer to pick up your suppressor.
- Approval Notice: When you receive your approval notice, you’ll need to present it to the dealer.
Step 8: Follow All Legal Guidelines
After purchasing the suppressor, ensure you follow all local, state, and federal laws regarding its use and transportation. Remember that:
- Always store and transport the suppressor legally.
Notes:
- Always stay updated on local laws. In some areas, suppressor use might be restricted, even if they are legal to own.
- This process might change over time due to new legislation, so always check current laws and procedures.
